Talk-A-Raptor 04: Prelude to the Apocalypse

  1. If by “crappy joke” you mean “annoying asshole who I want to punch in the face every time I see him on screen and shove his tea where the sun don’t shine” then I must agree with you.

    BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

    And Soul Eater’s more about the support each weapon gives their meister, whereas in Bleach it’s more about the weapon (Zangetsu and Zabimaru are one of the few, if not only, we’ve seen in their material forms) telling the wielder “Man-up and get stronger, bitch.”

    Medustein ftw.

  2. Heh, lesbian stalker.

    It has never actually occurred to me that Soul Eater could be a Bleach rip–off, though. True, the two shows have many valid similarities, but while Bleach is all about hunting down Hollows and keeping the balance between Soul Society and the normal world, Soul Eater focuses on the relationship between the master and the weapon, their ultimate mutual goal achieving Death Scythe status. In this case, the required hunt for the ninety-nine evil humans and one witch is only a means to reach that goal, while in Bleach taking care of stray souls is a duty, one of the many placed upon the shinigami.

    Sure, if we were to poke around meticulously, it would be easy to find interesting parallels such as Maka’s lively interactions with her father that easily mirror those of Ichigo’s. The parents in question even have corresponding behavior and backgrounds, especially the facts regarding their overall abilities in their area of expertise. But I still say, that above all, the two shows give off completely different vibes.

    And you’re right, Medustein is bloody badass.

  3. It was only 5/10 until you got your Kotomi on. The intentionally bad jokes are one of the funniest aspects of Talk-a-Raptor for me. I also missed Tidus, and liked how you rigged your alarm clock.

    Also, talk more slowly, and with more pauses between thoughts! Around Points 2-4 you were getting a bit monotonous :(

    But yeah, looking forward to the next one as always. Keep it up!

  4. Fool! Excalibur is not a crappy joke, he’s a crappy joke whose legend began in the 12th century.

    Actually shouldn’t the fact that Soul Eater devoted an entire episode to a joke factor in? Then again said episode had West Side Story snapping so all is forgiven.

  5. As the weapons in Bleach are representations of the souls of the cast members, surely all of the most powerful characters are schizophrenics? Soul Eater produces a different craziness, which involves less talk and more head-chewing. Soul Eater thus constitutes artistic progress.

  6. @Omisyth: That’s exactly what I meant, but I don’t have the lung capacity to recite that entire line in one breath. Just kidding, I do. I’m just lazy.

    @Myu: Funny, my initial reaction to Soul Eater was thinking it was Bleach II. Maybe I’ve just been distracted by the slutty transforming cat-girls. Of course, the more I watch Soul Eater, the farther it drifts from Bleach in my mind.

    @lolikitsune: Point 4 was intentionally monotonous*. You’re a smart guy, so I’ll refrain from trampling your ego by explaining why. Point 2 was perfectly fluid. I’ll acknowledge that one of my lines in Point 3 was rushed. I realized it, but I was too lazy to go back and edit it. Also, did you notice how you were most amused by the non-Soul Eater jokes? That’s in substantial part because you haven’t watched the show…and what about my attack on Michael’s CCxLelouch fanboying?

    *just like Maka’s voice (no, that’s not the explanation, keep thinking)

    @Ibrevis: I almost used a West Side Story screenshot but backed out. It would weaken my argument to show Excalibur’s one redeeming scene.

    @coburn: Progress indeed. Instead of two codependent sets of feelings we have two independent sets of feelings. I don’t like this trend. Weapons shouldn’t have feelings. What’s next, blood with feelings? Air with feelings?

  7. I was most amused by the “I’ve tried S&M” line, actually.

    Also, of course I loved the jab at Michael.

    Finally, I fucking love Maka’s voice, let me find a link to prove it: Maka’s voice is not pedophilic. And shit, man, maybe you only rushed one line, but you know how impressions work. I might be intelligent but I’m still human. Slow the fuck down, Joe!

    *psst* i wanna flai into ur airspase

  8. Awesome OP dance!

    Also, Blair is a cat that can become a girl, whereas Yoruichi is a girl who can become a cat. That is totally different.

  9. 1. the op dance
    2. take a tip from zero punctuation. Not only be monotonic, speed it up and get rid of pauses!
    3. kotomi is a nice touch.

    best content on this website yet.

  10. kotomi was nice

  11. @lolikitsune: oh geass no!

    @Kabitzin: Thank you, that was the best of about 50 takes. Another possible difference between the cat-girls: Blair is white/Japanese and Yoruichi is black/Japanese (I can never tell in anime).

    @omo: Perhaps I’ll make a Talk-A-Raptor 0 one of these days…

    @lelangir: Get thee to a Kotomi.

  12. What about Steinusa? or SteinDUSA?

  13. I haven’t as yet watched Soul Eater so I can’t really compare them.

    But I did laugh a lot throughout that, awesome Talk-A-Raptor :)

    I can see the Dragonball element too considering with the endless power ups Bleach oftentimes endlessly circles the monotonous.

    But I guess that’s shounen for you. I mean check out Naruto right now (manga not bloody Shippuden, anyone still watching you are a masochist) he’s off getting “Sage training” right now… YAWN.

  14. I haven’t gone that far with Soul Eater’s manga, that’s why I find Bleach having quite the upper hand… for now. But to clarify, Soul Eater ain’t a Bleach rip-off, that’s a crazy argument. Anyhow, was LuluXC.C. a true-blue heterosexual couple? Then again, I classify them as a More-Often-Than-Not Heterosexual Couple. It’s all win anyway. I’m so not into Kallen.

    @D.J: But Bleach’s manga is very near to closure, so we won’t have to worry about ridiculous power-ups that we won’t have to give a freakin’ DBZ reference.

    @Baka-Raptor: You sounded a bit enthusiastic about this. It’s the first time I bothered to check Talk-a-Raptor. Oh well. Great show!!!!

  15. Obviously I need to watch more Soul Eater.

    kotomi is a nice touch.

    I wonder if omo has seen a Talk-A-Raptor before, since Kotomi is a constant of those as much as ShizNat is (ShizNat is a constant of us all, to be more specific). And I do miss Tidus. :(

    And thirded, the OP dance was awesome. :P

    Great stuff, as always. :3

  16. Great stuff as always. Would like to see something DMC related in the near future though.

  17. It is kinda cold here in Boston, this video is not really helping!

  18. @Hoshi: You clearly prefer having guys on top XD

    @D.J.: I am a masochist.

    @Rakuen: You didn’t miss anything. Like Star Wars, Talk-A-Raptor begins with Episode 4.

    @TheBigN: Who needs Caramelldansen?

    @Shin: Ask, And Ye Shall Receive!

    @The Sojourner: It’s never too cold for my Strike Witches cosplay.

  19. Yeah. DMC please. R-r-r-ape!

  20. Yeah, random raping would be nice. Start with Tidus.

  21. Well, I ripped the idea of killing bunnies off the dude who made the Book of Bunny Suicides …

  22. @blissmo: Yet it is still awesome.

    @Baka-Raptor: THE RAPTURE IS NIGH.

  23. Fuck, Baka-Raptor is awesome.

  24. @The Sojourner & Shin: There will be R-R-R-R-R-R-R-R-R-Rape in the next episode – guaranteed.

    @blissmo: And I ripped off my site from Maddox. Let he who is without sin throw the first stone.

    @mellow_bunny: THE RAPTOR IS NIGH.

    @Valmanway: Wait until you see my karaoke skills.

    @Rakuen: You win the award for best comment on my post that was accidentally posted elsewhere.

  25. [...] Get over to OH and watch it. [...]

  26. “What’s next, blood with feelings?”

    You forgot the black blood in Crona? It takes a form and goes emo sometimes!

  27. Still watching? How have you not poked your eyes out of sheer boredom yet?

    Its not that the content sucks, I do love the manga after all, but its dragged out over so many episodes!

  28. Gnarfard & Ichigo and his crew have just one word to say about this whole article…

    BAN-KAI!
    *the earth shakes*

    Soul Eater is left behind in the dust. ;)!

  29. @Baka-Raptor: Thanks for all your support. I love you.

    @keke: Oh yeah. And the sun and moon have feelings too. Definitely a step in the wrong direction. The sun and moon should be ruthless killing machines.

    @D.J.: What can I say, I’m a Masochist. And I like the new OP and ED. You know the closer you get to something, the tougher it is to see it…

    @Gnarfard: The verdict so far is that Soul Eater is not entirely a Bleach knockoff. Whether or not it’s better has yet to be determined…

  30. In 50 years someone is going to dig up copies of both series and conclude that Bleach is the Soul Eater knockoff.

  31. And the sun and moon have feelings too.

    What are you talking about, the sun is the moon. HAVEN’T YOU WATCHED CASSHERN SINS?!

  32. [...] anything. [↩]I couldn’t resist, and also, it’s true. He’s got some not-so-dinosaurian dance moves, though. [↩]jason is now a kind of word, as established in the last vocab lesson [↩]if [...]

Leave us some love! *wink*
