Mothers, lock up your daughters when coburn's in town. Though the threat posed to their nether-regions is paltry, he will show no shame in persistent attempts to engage them in amateurish anime-discourse. After a mere hour in his company the most comely maiden develops myopia. Prolonged exposure will leave your charming offspring pale unhealthy social wrecks, clutching their precious DVD boxes to their chests as though they were shields against a suddenly hostile world. Coburn's own path to fandom was rooted in Miyazaki films. From there he found his way to Cowboy Bebop, to Bleach, to Evangelion, and to obsession. Also to be found on the wordpress blog Claiming Ground, coburn remains convinced that he is the chosen one. The one who will bring balance to the world and ensure that every last innocent child will know the names of the finest works in the anime canon. Which would, in his opinion, involve the creation of an international curriculum consisting of: FLCL, Haibane Renmei, Millennium Actress, Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann, Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu, Only Yesterday, Mushishi, Soul Eater, and a bunch of other cool stuff. It is his fondest hope that you yourself might come to enjoy his present noodlings, and perhaps find that in following his gist you have stepped but one inch closer to that blinding light of obsession. For the sake this mission he will gladly sink to any indignity. Even the third person.

Soul Eater is a show of many virtues, and its music is undoubtedly a strong suit. But it’s not just using a bunch of good songs. It’s trying something distinct from the norm. It’s using something called… rap.
